Electrostatic powder coating is a painting method used to provide an aesthetic and protective coating on metal surfaces. This method is based on the principle of powder paint particles adhering to the metal surface with an electrostatic charge and then being baked to form a permanent coating.

Characteristics of Electrostatic Powder Coating
  1. Environmentally Friendly: Contains no volatile organic compounds (VOC), making it less harmful to the environment.
  2. Durability: High chemical and mechanical resistance, resistant to scratches and wear.
  3. Aesthetic Appearance: Smooth, homogeneous surfaces with various color options are obtained.
  4. Corrosion Resistance: Protects the surface from corrosion, extending the life of the metal.
  5. Economical: Minimal paint waste, as excess powder can be recycled and reused.
  6. Thick Coating: Thick coating can be achieved in a single application.
Electrostatic Powder Coating Process
  1. Surface Preparation: The surface must be clean and smooth for the powder paint to adhere well to the metal. Various cleaning processes are applied for this purpose.
    • Cleaning: The metal surface is freed from oil, dirt, and oxides.
    • Sandblasting or Acid Washing: Rust and old paint residues on the surface are cleaned.
  2. Powder Paint Application: Powder paint is applied to the metal surface using an electrostatic spray gun.
    • Electrostatic Charging: Powder paint particles are electrostatically charged inside the gun.
    • Application: The charged paint particles are attracted to the oppositely charged metal surface and adhere to it.
  3. Baking: The powder-coated metal parts are baked at a specific temperature (usually 160-200°C) to melt and polymerize the paint. This process ensures the paint adheres permanently to the surface and forms a durable coating.
    • Curing: Thermal processing is applied for a certain period to fully harden the paint and adhere it to the surface.
  4. Cooling: After the baking process is completed, the parts are cooled and made ready for use.

Electrostatic powder coating is widely used in automotive, home appliances, furniture, construction, and various industrial applications. This method is an ideal solution for obtaining high-quality, durable, and aesthetic coatings.
